The car tour to PETERGOF. One of the biggest in Russia palatial park ensembles was created here in 18th-19th centuries. The construction was started in 1710; presently the square is approximately 1000 hectares. It was one of the principal summer imperial residences till 1917. The town’s name was changed to Petrodvorets (Peterpalace) in January 1944. In 1997 the St. Petersburg administration gave the city back its name Petergof.

The Grand palace is the heart of the palatial park ensemble (primarily it was a two-storeyed palace built in 1714-1725, and then it was rebuilt by architect Rastrelli in 1747-1752). There are the Upper garden with 5 fountains (including the Neptune fountain) was laid out in 1714-25 and the Lower garden (located at the seaside zone with the square of 102,5 hectares) with the biggest in the world complex of fountains (the water passage is 22 km long). There is also a Grand grotto in a frame of fountains cascade, which was decorated by numerous statues in the 8th – early 19th centuries at the foot of the Palace. There are such statues as Samson tearing the jaws of a lion (1802, sculptor Mikhail Kozlovsky), bas-reliefs, vases, the first park ensemble with palaces “Mon plaisir” (1714-25), “Marli” (1720-23), the Hermitage pavilion (1721-24), fountains “Adam”, “Eve” and others. The tourists are proposed to visit one of the small palaces, the Lower and the Upper parks during the excursion.
